Guest Submissions

We welcome all guest submission for publication on Footnotes, including standard guest posts (800-1200 words), long-reads (up to 3,000 words), shorter provocations (less than 800 words), poetry, stream of consciousness, photo essays, illustration, videos or ethnographic film, soundscapes and music, and experimental forms. There is no restriction on the subject matter or the narrative style of submissions, but we do pay close attention to the conversations, perspectives, and – if applicable – bibliographies with which submissions engage.

We ask that you submit a description of the proposed piece, keywords, and a short personal statement about the relationship between you the author, the piece you’re proposing, and the stated goals of Footnotes, which are found in our inaugural post and the About Us page. Please note that Footnotes is a volunteer-run project under the direction of mostly junior scholars who prioritize amplifying marginalized voices and scholarship. We will do our best to respond within a reasonable amount of time, but it may take up to several weeks to respond with feedback and a decision, depending on time and availability.
